Great sponsor and good friend Hugh Nguyen of Absolute Color came in with his family, wife Christy, daughter Amy, and sons Zack & Zane for a day on the water. It started out a little slow with the redfish and trout action being pretty sketchy as it was. The wind was just not going to cooperate with us with a sustained wind of 15 to 20 mph with gusts of up to 30. Although we covered alot of area with no luck their spirits were still high with all the other scenery that there was to see. I mentioned to them that although the reds and trout were pretty tight lipped I believed we could catch some big Black Drum in the 30 to 50 pound range if they were up to it. They all agreed so soon we were headed for the Pass to see if they were still coming in from the gulf. After anchoring up along the drop off I set out 3 lines and told them what to expect and it did not take long before one of the lines started singing off the reels. Hugh has 4 great kids but only 3 were with us on this trip,Amy,Zack, and Zane. Amy was first up so I handed her the rod and with a little coaching she soon landed the first drum, a nice 35 pounder was brought up,pictures were taken and it was released to fight another day. This went on for a couple hours with Zack and Zane both catching a huge drum with the biggest being in the 45 pound range. Although Christy never had the opportunity to catch a big drum she was the official photographer and videoographer and extreme moral supporter.I think in a couple hours we caught and released 4 big drum and soon it was time for us to call it a day. I really enjoyed spending the day with Hugh and family. It was great to see families like Hugh’s spending quality time together, it really made for some great memories. Thanks guys and hope to see all of you soon.
